How A Mom Does Law School

People sometimes ask how I can raise a family and go to law school at the same time. Mind you, my children are theoretically nearly adults. Here was my schedule for today:

6:15 - Wake up, throw on clothes and take Boy to football.
7:00 - 8:45 - Work out, shower, dress, get breakfast. Take the time for an egg sandwich, because it's going to be a loooong day.
8:45 - 10:30 - Realize I can't leave for school until GirlChild comes home because she doesn't have her house keys. Write thank-you note for last night's party (work-related, don't ask what time I went to bed last night). Work on expense reports for callback week. Post a quick blog. Drink several cups of highly caffeinated tea. Say a quick hello to GirlChild and hustle off to school.
10:30 - 2ish - Work on cite check. Get mail call via IM. One offer confirmation, one ding (no word from either The Firm or The Other Firm).
2ish - run to pick up Boy from football, have him drop me off at school.
2ish - 8 - work on cite check from hell. Nearly have a heart attack when I think half the sources are missing. Find sources and avert heart attack, but have a stroke over enormous amount of work ahead of me. Manage Boy's preparation for homecoming dance via phone and IM.
8 - find out TFL landed safely and has arrived back home (after 3 day conference in Miami).
9 - dash home in borrowed car for some Apple Cake (thanks to LAM), a couple of beers, and my second triple mocha, swing by the Thai place for dinner, take it all back to school to share with the other person who's doing a cite check this week. (Why are there only 2 of us doing one? Where is everybody?)
10 - take remains of mocha and the cake back up to my table, resume cite check.
11 - pull beer out of fridge, continue trying to find obscure cites in unindexed sources.
12:15 - get ride home from fellow sufferer (who is working on a different but equally nightmarish cite check).
12:15 - 1:25 - clean kitchen and bathroom. Say hello to Boy and his date when they return. Spend 2 minutes admiring pictures. So cute!! Sweep up a 2 foot wide ball of dog fur.
1:25 - realize there's still a congregation of teenagers in front of my bedroom door, showing no signs of leaving soon. Sit down to write a quick blog post before shoving them out of the way and going to bed.

I figure I'll be in bed by about 1:50.

Tomorrow: rinse and repeat. Only with fewer breaks, and since TFL is home I'll be able to get to the library by 9, when it opens.

The times might be off by a few minutes here and there, but believe me -- not more than that.  Still undone: pay pile of bills, cancel a callback, decline an offer, decide if I'm going to a certain firm's dinner next week, fold 8 million 5 loads of laundry, and excavate my bedroom. Or at least my bed. And, sometime before 8:30 Monday morning, I must do my reading for class.

Beats digging ditches in the rain.

It only JUST beats digging ditches in the rain.

Quite simply - you are amazing. I will now forget I ever read this post so as not to panic about my future days as a working mother.
