At some point this week, I'm not exactly sure when, I shoved a bunch of stuff for Boy into a bag and headed east. I ended up at LAM's house,* of course, where I've been for the past couple of days while I wait for the chance to head a bit further north and see Boy.
In the meantime, we've been busy. Boy needs school gear. Not notebooks or pens or anything like that. No, he needs clothing with the school's name splashed all over it. So does TFL, and naturally so do I. Therefore, LAM and I hit the shops.
It's a maize and blue festival around here right now. Students are supposed to wear maize (not yellow, not gold) to home games, so Boy needed a t-shirt and sweatshirt in that color. Then there was a fabulous long-sleeve blue shirt with the name embroidered on the front, and a great short-sleeve blue t-shirt, and so on. TFL had asked for some bizarre pullover thing but with a zipper and wind resistance and I don't know what-all, which I was describing to LAM in just such confused terms when she pulled something off the rack and said,
"Like this?"
Why, yes! Exactly like that. Four shops and I don't know how much money later, TFL has a couple very nice items, I have a few shirts (including one that says "mom" which I think is both hysterical and very, very weird) and Boy has a nice stack of stuff. He will need more, who are we kidding? And yes, I will monopolize all the warm clothing all weekend if it doesn't warm up, but it is supposed to hit 80 tomorrow. And with any luck at all, I'll get to go to the game! It's against Podunk U, but hey. It's a game at the Big House and that's always a blast. Plus I'll get to see She Who Must Be Obeyed (SMO),** and that will be all kinds of fun.
(Don't worry, I've been busy with lots of LR stuff too, and the clerkship craziness, but once in a while I like to remember that I have a family.)
*My sister-in-law #4, married to the brother who is rapidly becoming known as Mr. Big-Shot. Couldn't happen to a nicer guy.
**My sister-in-law #1, married to the oldest of my brothers. He's ancient, but runs marathons. SMO is just fabulous.
My friends and I were always furious that the student government would choose to sell the student body yellow shirts as the "official" shirts for the season. Apparently, yellow shirts are easier and cheaper to come by than maize ones. All of the cool kids wore actual maize shirts, though (preferably the ones from S&B with the block letters on front, that could be had for $4 or something incredible, and broke in wonderfully). We shunned those who wore yellow.

Well, phew!! Glad I figured that one out! I'll have to look for the ones from S&B though.
