Your Public Service Announcement today:
For swollen eye lids--in case you've been crying--try resting for half an hour with thin slices of cucumber on your eyelids, or try teabags dipped in chilled water. Maybe mint tea; I suspect it's the cold as much as any astringent properties in the tea that helps the swelling, and mint smells nice.
The PayPal link for the Landon Fund has been a bit uncertain, but you can always get to PayPal to send money to [email protected], if you like. It's probably a more useful gift than flowers. I wonder if we should put an actual trust together for tax purposes (sorry, but I am in law school and did rotate through Tax this summer). Anyone know a banker? T&E lawyer? I think we could still use PT-LawMom's brilliant PayPal idea to send money to it, probably with the same email.
Once again, I'm struck by how little I know about the law. I just know about things like cucumbers.
I wondered about the tax implications myself. (Not that I know anything about tax, since I don't pay attention and facebook instead.) Also, I believe Pay Pal gets a small cut out of it too. While it's certainly a safe option for money transfer, those are the downsides.
Oh and hemorrhoid cream works for swollen eye lids too. Just be very careful not to get it in your eye.
Glad to hear LL is hanging in there and preparing for the fight. We're all hopeful this nightmare comes to an end very soon.

I just figured PayPal was the quickest and easiest and most anonymous. Setting up something more legal/permanent would require a) LL having to take the time to go to the bank, b) probably reveal her identity, although perhaps not if it's in a trust and c) take too long since it's the weekend. They do take a cut, but I think it usually amounts to maybe $2-3 off the top, which isn't much.

Yep, I think you're right, PT-LawMom. And, again, it just meant the world to LL and JP that people were so moved to help them right now.
Let's see how things go on Tuesday. If it goes to trial, we will, sadly, have ample time to set up something official.

Again, not sure how much she's sharing with her future firm, but setting up a trust or other account is pretty easy (I work in corporate at my job and we do this for private clients all the time). She could probably find an attorney at future firm or even a law professor to help her set something up or to recommend a bank that would help her. If she's going to go that route, she should probably pick a large national bank so that it would be easy for people to deposit money (Bank of America?) Most banks will also allow people to mail checks to them c/o "Landon Fund" or some such thing.
