I have to find new doctors.
I hate doctors, and hospitals, and pretty much all things medical (except for my mother in law, the nurse, and my brother in law, the pharmacist). Don't even get me started on dentists. As a result, I avoid all that stuff (like the plague). But sometimes even I will cave and admit I have to go see a doctor. Just regular stuff, everyone can stop being alarmed right now.
I'm here only to complain about the process. Bitterly. Unless someone happens to know a great doctor who works right around here--that would be handy. Otherwise I will continue my futile quest to find a doctor who doesn't have a god complex, who does think that I might have a drop of intelligence my own self and might even be worth listening to when I describe symptoms or preferences, and who doesn't automatically prescribe drugs for everything under the sun.
But who will give me a freaking Valium* when I have to go to the dentist.** Don't talk to me about Xanax or whatever designer drug is out there--give me something old-fashioned and predictable to knock me out, and someone can wake me up when the dentist is done.
All things considered, though, I'd settle for a doctor who is smart and will listen to me. Ok, how about a doctor who's smart?
*I don't think I've ever actually had Valium. But the description sounds like exactly what I need for the dentist: make me not care for the few seconds it takes to fall asleep...
**Oh yes, I have to find a dentist too. Blast it. I could probably go another 10 years without seeing one, but TFL definitely must go. He can stand the torture.
ahem, there's one other hospital worker you might be fond of....
btw: try googling alternative medicine doctors, sometimes osteopathic drs are more holistic, also sometimes chiropractors have a line on more holistic kinds of medical folks.

Dr. Chuey works at DOCS on 23rd St. and 7th (or 8th?) Ave. I'm not sure what his first name is, but he's better than average. I lived in Manhattan for 14 years and avoided one crappy doctor after another until I found him. His office staff kind of sucks though.
