It was band rehearsal night last night, which generally means a lot of hard work, a lot of fun, and vast quantities of festive beverages.
We missed our fabulous and mad guitarist, Kris; he's AWOL somewhere in Mexico or Ireland or something like that, no doubt boozing it up as he finds all the best dives.
After putting in a few hours of work on our set list we headed out to see Vertigo. Their drummer, who is fantastic and my third favorite drummer in the world, happens to be a good friend of the Drum Babe.
Were you there? I was one of the trio of hot chicks dancing away. No, not that trio, the other one. Several shots and drinks and hours and whatnot later we ditched the bar and headed back to the Drum Babe's house. Well, the Drum Babe and I did, since everyone else had already left. Lightweights.
It just so happened that her husband and some of his friends were playing poker in the garage. We wandered back there for a night cap and what do you know? They dealt me in. Texas Hold 'Em, which is not my favorite, but what the hey -- it's poker!
I've been going through poker withdrawal. I used to be part of a regular game, but it fell apart at some point. Guys don't think about calling me when they're setting up a game because, you know, I'm not a guy. Anyway, I'm definitely hoping I can corrupt fool talk some of my future classmates into semi-regular games.
So it was a great night. Band practice, dancing and drinking, and a little poker to round off the evening. Or morning, really, since I got home at 3:30. Not sure why I bothered with the 2 hours of sleep.
Eh, a party tonight. I'll sleep next week.
Laissez les bon temp rouler, mes amis.
